Updates on Autumn

So a few new pictures- grandparents request. Autumn is a handful! She will not take a bottle. She will not eat. She will not drink. All day, I have managed about 1-2 ounces of watered down juice and water, 2 spoons of yogurt, and just now, she took about 1/4 of a container of mashed prunes. The liquids, all with a 5cc syringe! Interestingly, she took the prunes in her crib which makes me wonder if she was mostly fed in her crib at the orphanage. She will not take a bottle in it though. We have contacted our Social Worker who will arrive here later today, and she is going to call the orphanage for suggestions. We have figured out her "mad cry" which happens often. And her sad/scared cry. She loves to go for walks in the stroller. Thank the Lord we have a stroller at home! She loves it. There are cobble stone streets here and she babbles as she jiggles over the stones. This is the most talk we have heard yet. She is still quite shy. I also worry that she is sleeping a little much today, but understandably if she does not feel well. Being a first time mom - this is quite hard. Still hoping she has a good poop!

  1. Andrea, we love the pictures! Autumn looks so sweet. It sounds like things are slowly better. I'm sure the eating/drinking should improve soon. It's funny how we start praying for things like stinky diapers.

  2. She is so cute! Is she still on antibiotics? Wonder if they along w/ infection could be suppressing her appetite...? I hope you get some answers! If she is eating something other than the formula she had been on at the orphanage, that could be another issue...formula changes don't always go so well. I think it's probably a combo of everything...praying you get some answers...I know it is causing you a lot of worry. Hang in there!

  3. Awesome pictures. You and Mike are GREAT parents. I know things are tough right now as far as Autumn adjusting with eating and etc. but she has so much love from you guys that before you know it she will be a changed little girl. She is so precious and pretty. Try not to worry too much about the eating and bottle habits, she has had alot to get used to and she has been sick. As others have said, her appetite could be coming from medicine or just from bein sick especially if her throat is sore. Like I have her a hundred times over the years....they will eat when they are hungry. However, as a mom I know exactly how you feel. Hang in there....God will see you through. Again, pictures are so adorable. Prayin for you guys!!!!

  5. Just saw this on one of my mommy boards...there is a Similac powder recall. Just in case it is what you are using...

    http://similac.com/recall/

Here's part of an article about it -

"The United States Food and Drug Adminstration (FDA) has determined that while the formula containing these beetles poses no immediate health risk, there is a possibility that infants who consume formula containing the beetles or their larvae, could experience symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort and refusal to eat as a result of small insect parts irritating the GI tract."

  6. Great pictures! I'm sorry you two are having such a hard time with feedings, etc. This is a new situation for Autumn, and for you guys. Try not to worry, it will all work out. You are, and will be great parents.
